Supernatural Power and Results: Prayer and Fasting
Is there ever a time when your prayers are just not enough? Wondering if there is something missing in your approach to your relationship with God…or feeling overwhelmed with the life dilemmas that invade the lives of millions. Poverty, sickness, bad habits, harassment from the adversary, depression…just to name a few. It may be time to turn up the level of intensity and focus on the areas you’ve been praying about for yourself and others.
Isaiah 58: 6 says it this way:
[Rather] is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every [enslaving] yoke?
I believe God has given us wisdom, insight and most importantly the spiritual tools we need to intensify and concentrate power like a laser that operates with power and precision! Fasting in conjunction with Prayer brings us into a more intimate relationship with God because your hunger for Him will rise as you deny the flesh its usual appetite of “whatever it wants”. This is particularly true when it comes to food because the desire to eat “choice and tasty” foods can overwhelm our desire for God. Still doubtful of that statement?…then do a quick self-check…when was the last time you skipped a meal in order to seek God? Ok–when was the last time you skipped seeking God in order to eat a meal?
If you’re willing, have an humble spirit, and stick with it for the period of time directed by the Holy Spirit, then you will see the outcomes and results that God promises in Isaiah 58:7-8
Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house–when you see the naked, that you cover him, and that you hide not yourself from [the needs of] your own flesh and blood?
This is a remarkable revelation because you can’t share something you don’t have–you have to have food in order to feed the hungry, your own house in order to house the homeless, and ample clothing in order to provide clothing for the naked. And yet–God doesn’t stop there He promises even more:
8Then shall your light break forth like the morning, and your healing (your restoration and the power of a new life) shall spring forth speedily; your righteousness (your rightness, your justice, and your right relationship with God) shall go before you [conducting you to peace and prosperity], and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
God’s order becomes evident and clear…our first priority is focusing on God and the relationship with Him while denying self–as a result God unleashes His power that gives us the ability to get results!! This manifest as His anointing flows through our lives. It impacts the ONES we are assigned to minister to and share life with and then there is great breakthrough and benefit that overflows into our lives. Your light, your healing, your righteousness moves in and around you as a supernatural force from God clearing and breaking down and breaking through anything designed to stop you and if that wasn’t enough…the glory of the Lord shall be “your” rear guard.
Now that ought to make you excited and praise God when you think about the fact that His power goes before you and His power and Glory guards you. We were not designed to be able to protect ourselves from enemies that may approach from behind or in a stealth way–so we MUST trust and have confidence in God alone because HE IS ABLE to guard us and lead us at the same time. No other relationship provides that level of power and intimacy…nothing even comes close. This is the same spiritual state that the scripture describes about Jesus when he came out of the wilderness after fasting and praying 40 days –“…Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit.” Luke 4:14
